Cookies policy of the Hercules Association

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small text file that often includes a unique identifier, assigned to your computer or device when you visit a website.

Each website can send its own cookie to your browser if your browser preferences allow it, but (to protect your privacy) your browser only permits a website to access the cookies it has already sent to you, and not the cookies sent by other sites. Many websites do this whenever a user visits their site in order to track online traffic flows.

We use cookies to enhance the quality of our Website and services and to improve your browsing experience. A number of the cookies we use last only for the duration of a single session on the site and expire when you close your web browser. Other cookies are used, for example, to remember information you have requested (such as language preferences) and these last for a longer period.

The lifespan of a cookie can vary significantly depending on the purpose for which it is placed. Some cookies are intended for a single use (such as session cookies); therefore, they are not retained once the user has left the website. Other cookies are maintained and reused each time the user returns to the site (persistent cookies). Nevertheless, cookies can be deleted by the user at any time through their browser settings.

Certain content sections of some websites may be provided through third-party cookies, as is the case with advertisements. Such cookies may be placed on the site and are called third-party cookies because they are not placed by the website owner. Accordingly, these third parties are obligated to comply with the applicable legal regulations and the privacy policies of the website.

Cookies are central to the efficient functioning of the Internet, helping to create a user-friendly browsing experience tailored to the preferences and interests of each user. Refusing or disabling cookies can make some websites impossible to use. Refusing or disabling cookies does not mean you will no longer receive online advertising – it only means that the ads will no longer take into account your preferences and interests evidenced by your browsing behavior.

Examples of cookie usage (which do not require user authentication through an account):

  1. Content and services tailored to user preferences – such as product and service categories;
  2. Offers adapted to user interests – such as remembering passwords;
  3. Retaining child protection filters regarding internet content (family mode, safe search functions);
  4. Limiting ad frequency – limiting the number of times an ad is displayed to a specific user on a site;
  5. Providing more relevant advertising for the user;
  6. Measurement, optimization and Analytics features – such as confirming a certain level of traffic on a website, what type of content is being viewed, and how a user reaches a website (e.g., through search engines, directly, from other links, etc.). Websites perform these usage analyses to improve their content for the benefit of the users.

By accessing this site, the following types of cookies may be placed:

– performance cookies: these remember the user's preferences on this website;

– visitor analysis cookies: these tell us if you have visited this site before; your browser will inform us if you have this cookie, and if not, we will generate one;

– geotargeting cookies: these are used by software that determines your country of origin; they are completely anonymous and are used solely for content targeting;

– registration cookies: these let us know if you are registered or not, show us the account you are logged in with, and whether you have permission for a specific feature;

– advertising cookies: based on these, we can determine whether or not you have viewed an online advertisement, the type of ad and how much time has passed since you viewed that advertisement.

Cookies themselves do not require personal information to be used and, in most cases, do not personally identify internet users. Personal data may only be collected through the use of cookies to facilitate specific functionalities for the user.

HOW CAN YOU CHANGE THE COOKIE SETTINGS IN YOUR BROWSER?

Deleting cookies

Applications used to access web pages allow cookies to be saved on the device by default. These settings can be changed so that the automatic management of cookies is blocked by the web browser, or the user is informed each time cookies are sent to their device. Detailed information about the possibilities and methods of managing cookies can be found in the application's settings (web browser). Limiting the use of cookies may affect certain functionalities of the website.

Most browsers offer the possibility to change cookie settings. These settings are usually found in the ,,Options" or ,,Preferences" menu of your browser.

To understand these settings, the following links may be useful; otherwise, you can use the browser's ,,Help" option for more details.
